The difference between Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus
Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus are two distinct certifications. Cyber Essentials confirms that your business has the essential security controls in place to defend against common cyber threats. Cyber Essentials Plus builds on this, providing independent, hands-on verification that these controls are not only implemented but also working effectively.
Cyber Essentials is a prerequisite for Cyber Essentials Plus. While most businesses start with Cyber Essentials to strengthen their basic cyber defences and demonstrate commitment to data protection, Cyber Essentials Plus is aimed at organisations that require higher assurance, need to meet stricter contract requirements, or want confirmation that their cyber defences perform as intended.
Cyber Essentials process
Achieving Cyber Essentials involves a straightforward but thorough review of your organisation’s cyber security practices through an independently verified self-assessment. The assessment covers five key technical controls:
